The Ferrari 488 GTB has barely hit the road and the tuners have got their hands on it already.¬†German outfit xXx Performance is one such tuner, unveiling its tuning packages at this week’s Essen Motor Show.

xXx’s 488 start innocuously enough, with a matt red vinyl wrap and matt black detailing. Things kick up a notch with a set of 21in Vossen wheels, which are rather sexy despite their gold finish. Novitec suspension drops the ride height, though probably does little for the handling. And a Capristo exhaust provides the soundtrack.

But the real story here is what xXx has done to the engine. Now, since the 488 has switched to a 3.9-litre, V8 engine with two turbos, tuning is theoretically easier than it was with the 458’s naturally aspirated motor. And xXx has taken full advantage of that fact.

There are three tuning packages to choose from. Stage 1 produces 730bhp and 612lb/ft of torque, up from the standard car’s 661bhp and 561lb/ft. Stage 2 has 838bhp and 686lb/ft. But why bother, when the Stage 3 kit makes 986bhp (1,000PS) and 922lb/ft.

There’s no word on what kind of performance a 986bhp 488 GTB is capable of, but we estimate 0-62mph in something like 2.5secs. What we’re most curious about, though, is how that kind of power has been integrated with the 488’s massively complex electronics.

Price? Probably somewhere around £350,000 Рincluding a new 488 Рfor the same spec as the show car.
