The 2015 Ford Focus RS is one of the most hotly anticipated cars of this year. And Ford isn’t holding back with it.
The engineers at Ford Performance have a big job on their hands to better the previous generations of Focus RS. Both became legends in the their own lifetime, the most recent one in particular.
That was a 300bhp, five-cylinder turbocharged monster, with an enormous spoiler and a very clever differential to keep it on the road. And it did 160mph.
The new one cranks the volume up to 11. Under the bonnet is 2.3-litre EcoBoost motor, kicking out a reported 350bhp. All that power is channeled to four-wheel-drive, which will have everyone comparing it to the old Escort Cosworth.
It is shaping up to be a bit of a monster, then. It will finally be unveiled on February 3, but won’t actually go on sale until mid-2016 at the earliest, only a year or two before the current third Focus is replaced.
Until then, here’s a video Ford has released of a late prototype Focus RS being driven on its door handles.
