Images of the second-generation 2017 Porsche Panamera have been leaked online weeks ahead of its expected debut.

The styling has been through an evolutionary change, with styling cues from the 718 Boxster/Cayman and facelifted 991 visible, particularly at the front and rear. The silhouette is more-or-less the same, but it appears less bulky than the outgoing model.

It’s perhaps still not as handsome as the Audi A7 and Mercedes CLS – its key rivals – but it’s certainly a big improvement over the current car, which always reminds me of a salamander.

Beneath the skin, it’s all-change. VW Group’s big car MSB platform is used, along with a selection of all-new V6 and V8 turbo engines. There will be rear- and four-wheel-drive options as before and a hybrid version is expected follow.

The interior will be centred around an all-new infotainment system with a touchscreen rumoured to be as big as 12 inches across. Rear seat passengers may get their own large-format touchscreen, as well.

We’ll bring you more details when they are announced.
