Madcap Texan tuner Hennessey turns 25 this year and is celebrating in appropriate style with an 800bhp Ford Mustang.
Going by the moniker Hennessey Mustang HPE800 25 Anniversary Edition, it starts life as a perfectly normal 5.0-litre V8 Mustang GT. Hennessey then adds a high-flow carbonfibre induction kit, upgraded fuel injectors and pump, remapped ECU and a drainpipe exhaust. Oh, and a socking-great 2.9-litre supercharger.
The result is 804bhp and 648lb/ft of torque, enough for a 0-60mph time of 3.1sec, a quarter-mile sprint of 10.7secs at 133mph and an eye-widening top speed of 207.9mph.
With that kind of speed on tap, you would hope for some serious aero to tie it down. The Mustang sports a splitter, side skirts and rear spoiler, but they’re all worryingly modest.
Still, the huge 15in Brembo brakes should haul it to a stop in short order, while the lowered suspension and 20in wheels should go some way to containing all that oomph in corners.
Carbonfibre trim, some graphics and a numbered plaque – only 25 will be built – finish it off. Hennessey will offer Anniversary editions of other cars, but it hasn’t said what they will be yet.
Hennessey will charge $99,500 (£67,700) for the Anniversary Mustang, or about $36,000 more than the most extreme Mustang available off the shelf, the track-bred, 526bhp Shelby GT350R.
