I like to think that I’m good fun, young at heart, all that nonsense. Don’t get me wrong, I can be serious and grown up when I need to be. But, at the same time, I’m make farting noises with my daughter should the opportunity present itself. Life’s all about living, after all. One man to embrace that philosophy with open arms is the brilliantly named Lennart Ribring. He’s 97. And he just bought himself a 5.0GT Mustang. What a guy!
Lennart isn’t just good fun, he’s also mad for the Fords. He actually had a first generation mustang back in the ’60s – quite an impressive feat considering he lives in Stokholm, Sweden. He’s a car guy through and though, and even at 97, that’s not a passion that’s going away. “I fell in love with the first Mustangs that came out and I have hardly thought about another car since. You felt a bit like king of the road.” said Lennart. “I don’t have long to live now, maybe. So, I want to take the opportunities I have to drive and have a little fun in life. This is the real thing.”
How cool is this old boy? He is well and truly living the dream. Yes, the may be his final car, but what a final car to have. No Nissan Micra for good old Lennart, he needs something with a bit more bite. So a 155mph, 5.0V8 monster was exactly the way to go, right?
Now retired businessman who still works part-time as an accountant, Lennart also has some wise words for those who plan on still being behind the wheel when they are approaching 100. “I would encourage younger drivers to let their porridge cool down first,” said Lennart. “Learn about a car properly before you drive it. You must always think about safety.” Wise words indeed. And words with some meaning to them, after all, Lennart has made it to the ripe old age of 97!
Though he’s not done yet. He has a goal to join the ton-up club, for drivers aged 100 and up. Now that’s one hell of a goal! It’s goes to show that age really is just a number. Life is for living after all, so why grow up and be sensible? Especially when you could grow up and be this cool!
