All-new MX-5 gets BBR Performance treatment

We love the all-new Mazda MX-5, there’s no other way to put it. As an overall package it is just fantastic to experience.

Even still there is no stopping regular Mazda tuners BBR Performance from adding a little more performance to the MX-5.

The guys at BBR are highly trusted by Mazda as they don’t undo the work of the Mazda engineers by bolting pieces to the car that it wasn’t designed to have. They know their stuff at BBR and that is clear to see by the performance packages they offer on the all-new Mazda MX-5.

The BBR tuning package consists of engine, suspension and brake upgrade packages for the latest ND versions of the MX-5. Package levels consists of BBR’s Super 160 pack for the 1.5L models and the Super 175+ and Super 190 packages for the larger 2.0L engine.

The BBR Super 160 package gets gains of 20bhp and 14 lb-ft to bring the power output of the 1.5L engine to 158bhp and 124 lb-ft of torque.

Both the Super 160 and the Super 175+ feature in-house developed BBR Starchip ECU software upgrades as well as camshaft, ignition timing and fueling upgrades.

The BBR Super 175+ package which is only available on the 2.0L model makes gains of 17bhp and 10 lb-ft of torque. That brings overall power to 177bhp and 157 lb-ft of torque.

As with the Super 160, the Super 175+ features BBR’s exclusive Starchip ECU software which creates a much improved power curve and combined with the enhanced torque of the 2.0L engine.

Both the BBR Super 160 and the Super 175+ are now available for all variants of the 2015 Mazda MX-5 for a more than reasonable £495 which include installation and dyno testing at BBR’s Brackley premises. A DIY version is available for £595 and comes supplied with programming and diagnostic software.

The pick of the bunch however is the range topping Super 190 package that features gains of 30bhp and 24 lb-ft of torque. This takes the total power output to 190bhp and 176 lb-ft of torque, all in a sub 1,000kg front engine, rear wheel drive car.

Instead of mention all the little details on what has been done to the Super 190 package, we’re just going to say that it’s just an incredible package offered by BBR. The stock all-new Mazda MX-5 is absolutely incredible so we can only imagine a 190hp version is even more incredible to drive.

The Super 190 package is also available now for a little more pricey of a cost compared to the other two packages. The Super 190 package is £1,995 fitted and that includes dyno testing.

However the Mazda MX-5 has always provided incredible value for money driving thrills and with any of these packages from BBR installed it only enhances that incredible experience
