In 1976 Apple Computer was founded, Niki Lauda suffered his terrible crash at the Nurburgring, Brotherhood of Man won Eurovision for the UK, The Muppet Show debuted on TV and Britain baked in one of the hottest summers on record.

It was also an interesting year for new cars, with several models launched that would go on to sell by the milllion, alongside a couple of all-time greats. And there were, of course, a few stinkers thrown in for good measure.
