Aston Martin Vulcan get first outing

The 24 very lucky, very (very) wealthy Aston Martin Vulcan owners have had their first on-track outing with the 820bhp, V12-engined monster at the Yas Marina F1 circuit in Abu Dhabi.

Aston doesn’t just toss the keys to the owners and tell them to have at it. Driving ability wasn’t a criteria of ownership and its a near-certainty that at least some of the lucky few will never have driven anything like the Vulcan before. So they first do laps in a V12 Vantage S road car before progressing to a Vantage GT4 racer. Only then do they nose out onto the track in the Vulcan. Throughout they get expert tuition, Aston works racer Darren Turner acting as head instructor.

The owners got to take their cars out during both the day and night to experience how it responds to different atmospheric conditions. There will be many more of these track days, all aimed at helping the owners get as much out of the Vulcan as possible.

All this is included in the Vulcan’s sticker price, but then you’d hope to get a few extras thrown in for your £1.8 million. That kind of money would easily buy a season of GT3 racing in the Blancpain Endurance Series, but the Vulcan experience is an entirely different thing with its own appeal.

Now, would it be possible to orchestrate an Aston Martin Vulcan/Ferrari FXX K/McLaren P1 GTR face-off? Hmm…

In the meantime, ogle these stunning images of the Vulcans on track at Yas Marina.
