In many ways, the Audi A6 Allroad is all the car you could ever need. It’s very spacious and practical, luxuriously interiored, handles well, is usefully capable off-road, tows 2.5 tons and, with the 317bhp twin-turbo diesel engine, is extremely fast.
What the A6 Allroad isn’t, in any way, is sporty. Until now, for Audi has launched the A6 Allroad Sport. Along with the Sport badge comes 19in wheels, all-LED headlights, leather sports seats, alcantara trim and privacy glass. On top of satnav, a powered tailgate, automated parking and four-zone aircon.
Adaptive air suspension comes as standard too, which drops the ride height by 15mm at speeds over 74mph for better aero. Off-road mode lifts the suspension 10mm for more ground clearance.
There’s a choice of three engines, all 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesels in single turbo 215bhp or 268bhp form; or the aforementioned 317bhp BiTDi unit. The former pair use a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the latter has an eight-speed auto. All three have quattro four-wheel-drive.
The middle engine is the most efficient, returning 51.4mpg and 145g/km of CO2. The BiTDi only manages 43.5mpg and 172g/km, but we can forgive that when it does 0-62mph in 5.5secs and is limited to 155mph. This, don’t forget, in large, off-roady estate that weighs nearly two tons.
The Audi A6 Allroad Sport is on sale now, priced from £49,455. All three versions carry a £3,700 premium over the standard model, an amount that would buy a fair few options for said standard model. You pays your money, etc.
