SAY hello to Iron Man’s family car. Well sort of.

Tony Stark drove an Audi R8 e-tron in the last Iron Man movie. Well this is the latest Vorsprung durch Technik electric offering.

It’s the e-tron Sportback concept and was unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show today.

Audi have also rubber-stamped it for production in two years time and will be yet another niche they have created – this one they have labelled a fully electric coupe SUV.

It doesn’t look like it in the pictures but it’s actually a sort of electric version of the Q7 in size but is only the height of a Q2, which gives an indication to how sleek it is in the metal.

Like Iron Man’s e-tron, this is a futuristic frenzy of gadgets. Typical of Audi there’s really clever touches of genius.

or the first time the Audi logos on the front and rear are made up of LEDs, while the Matrix LED headlamps are fitted with tiny Matrix projectors which can display graphics onto the road to tell other motorists and pedestrians which direction the car will be turning.

It’s the same on the inside with the e-tron Sportback the first vehicle to use electro lighting surfaces. A material no thicker than 0.02mm, the material is connected to the car’s onboard electrics system and illuminates when the car is started.

Under the beautiful bodywork there are three electric motors and combine to deliver 429bhp and 62mph in 4.5 seconds. According to Audi, when fully charged, the e-tron will cover up to 310 miles.

Audi are also working on a wireless charging station that customers will be able to install at home.

Suddenly futuristic electric are, well, a Stark reality.
