McLaren P1, Porsche 918 or LaFerrari. It’s the ultimate question for petrolheads at the moment. For the vast majority of us, it’s purely hypothetical. In reality, though, if you can afford one, you can probably afford all three.
British businessman Paul Bailey is believed to be the first lucky so-and-so in the world to have bought the hypercar holy trinity. He took delivery of the P1 a while ago then, last weekend, added the TheFerrari and the Porsche.
According to the Daily Mail, Mr Bailey ordered the LaFerrari two years ago and was initially offered one of the first five allocated for the UK. But he wanted his personalised by Tailor Made, Ferrari’s bespoke division, so he was prepared to wait for the next batch. He picked it up from Greypaul Ferrari in Nottingham before heading over to Jardine Porsche in Cambridge to collect the 918. As days go, it was probably a very good one.
Mr Bailey made his fortune in telephone conferencing, selling his business in 2012 for £28 million. He won’t be squireling his new toys – which add to a 30-strong collection – away, either. As a member of the Supercar Driver club, he’ll be giving passenger rides at circuits around the country, raising money for charity. He can pedal as well, having won races in Britcar, and competing in the British GT Championship in 2014 with his own team, Horsepower Racing.
He said: “I live a very surreal life and being the first to own all three does not feel real. This is why I want to use and share the cars with enthusiasts.”
So he’s loaded, has awesome cars, can drive properly, raises money for charity and has his feet on the ground. Is anyone else starting to not like this guy!?
