Rejoice! The weekend is here and… it looks like it’s going to be rainy and horrible. Drat. Still, we’re car people, we’ll find something to do. In fact, we have, and it involves heading to the historic venue of Brooklands with your bulging piggy bank. Yeah, let’s go and buy a car!
What’s the occasion? It’s the Brooklands Late Summer Sale. The yearly auction sells hundreds of cars and bikes, ranging from the rare, the exotic and the downright classic. If you have even a passing interest in cars, there’s something here for you. This year, the organisers are anticipating a £4,000,000 sale across the lots. But what’s going to be available? Here’s our pick!
How about this? It’s a Lister Jaguar XJS convertible. The Lister name is primarily associated with motorsport, but that doesn’t mean the company didn’t dabble in road cars. The wide-arched beast you see here is a prime example.
It has 66k on the clock, it has those incredible Lister alloys and with no roof, that V12 can sing to you all day long. It’s certainly not a car for the shy, retiring type, that’s for sure. And if you’re neither shy or retiring, it can be yours for as little as £26 – £34,000. Bargain!
Is the Jag a bit much? How about a thoroughbred classic in the form of this black E30 M3 EvoIII? Arguably the king of the super saloons, the E30 M3 was and always will be a motoring icon. Furthermore, this car is one of just 600 Sport Evolutions ever built. It’s also got all the miles – or kms – having covered 251,045km over its life, but it’s no need to fret.
First of all, it’s a driver’s car. Some use is good! They can’t all be 500 mile storage unit relics! In addition, this one has been beautifully restored, leaving it in mint condition. Oh, and the engine has had a professional top-end rebuild, too. She’s good to go, and could be yours for £65-80,000.
Still not satisfied? How about a 2014 Lamborghini Countach. Yes, we said 2014. Mainly because, um, it’s a replica built by Mirage. BUT WAIT! Don’t start thinking of MR2s dressed to look like squat, fat Ferrari F355s. This isn’t in that league. This is something else.
Built on a tubular steel chassis and draped in millimetre perfect fibreglass panels, this is perfection. Every detail has been covered, from the interior details to the Lambo badging on the callipers. It took five years to make, during which time not one bit was missed.
In some ways, it’s a bit better than the original. First of all, it’s two years old. Then there’s the 340bhp V12 engine… from a BMW. It’s mated to an Audi gearbox. The result is reliability and speed. Perfect. Oh, and due to being a replica, it’s going to sell for £40-50,000. So a quarter of what the real deal is worth in rough condition!
Finally, there’s this. Resplendent in metallic green, this Renault van/minibus thing is a work of automotive art. It boasts a wheezy diesel engine, more sets than a cinema and teeny, tiny alloys wheels. Park this baby on your drive and the neighbours will know your life has changed. They’ll know you’re now a taxi driver. They’ll probably be deeply jealous. Think of the earnings from working Uber in this? THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS.
Actually, we have no idea why this is in the auction. Still, it shows it’s going to be diverse, right?
The Brooklands Late Summer Sale is happening tomorrow. So pop down to your bank today and spend all your life savings on something tomorrow, because it’s what a winner would do!
