It was only a matter of time before the lunatics at Hennessey Performance Engineering got their hands on the Wrangler-based Jeep Gladiator pick-up. We always expect HPE to go over the top but they may have exceeded themselves here, for this Gladiator has 1,000hp. And they’ve called it Gladiator Maximus – see what they did there?
That 1,000hp comes from a tuned, 6.2-litre supercharged V8 from the Dodge Hellcat. It churns out 933lb/ft of torque, too. The boost comes from little more than an ECU upgrade and the wiring loom, radiator and fuel system have been beefed up to cope.
An eight-speed automatic gearbox does what it can to put the power down on the road. And it breathes through a stainless steel exhaust that probably sounds like Valhalla’s artillery.
There’s an 850hp version, too, but why bother?
Hennessey has also added unique front and rear bumpers and 20in wheels – all of its own making. The suspension is lifted 6in and it rides on knobbly BF Goodrich tyres. So the handling is probably… interesting.
A massive LED light bar on the roof and a completely retrimmed interior finish it off.
Perhaps best of all, though, it comes with a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty.
Just 24 examples of the Hennessey Jeep Gladiator Maximus 1000 – phew – will be built. Price? $200,000.
