Extreme Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT8 revealed

What’s an Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT8 then?

Following on from last year’s GT3 racing-inspired, V12-engined Vantage GT12, Aston’s Special Projects department has come up with V8 Vantage GT8, inspired by the GTE-class machines that race in the World Endurance Championship. Says Special Projects director David King: “We’ve taken the V8 Vantage to an entirely different level of agility and aggression.”

Oh yes.

What do I need to know?

Despite its smaller engine, the GTE race car is much more extreme than its GT3-spec sibling, and that reflects in the GT8.

Just take a look at those huge side skirts. And the bi-level front splitter. And that rear diffuser. They all aid the aerodynamics of course, but you need to tick the box for the optional spoiler to experience real downforce (the pack also includes corner elements for the front splitter).

The wheelarches are massively flaired, too, and the front wings feature cutouts that mirror those on the race car. Five-spoke wheels come as standard, while centre-lock magnesium rims are available as an option (both are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres).

Other options include a carbonfibre roof and polycarbonate side and rear windows. In standard form, the GT8 weighs 100kg less than the V8 Vantage S and 55kg less than the GT12, thanks to a lithium-ion battery and carbonfibre seats and door panels, among other things.

An upgraded version of the Vantage’s 4.7-litre V8 lives under bonnet, producing 440bhp (10bhp more than the Vantage S). 0-60mph takes 4.4secs; top speed is 190mph. And all the while, it produces one of the most guttural, primeval soundtracks of any car. Even more so if you spec the optional centre-exit exhaust.

Anything else?

The Vantage GT8 doesn’t forego comfort entirely. Aston’s latest infotainment system, a 160w stereo and aircon all come as standard.

When can I buy one?

Now, but you’ll have to be quick as the GT8 is limited to 150 units worldwide. Deliveries start towards the end of this year.

How much does it cost?

£165,000. Before you start ticking options.
