The new Fiat 500 Riva edition, named after the most impossibly glamorous boatmaker on the planet, exists for a world you (almost certainly) and I (definitely) don’t live in.
It’s a car for driving from your palatial and impossibly glamorous Mediterranean villa to your exclusive and impossibly glamorous yacht club to board your sleek and impossibly glamorous 122ft Riva Mythos yacht to cruise over to a friend’s palatial and impossibly glamorous Adriatic villa in the company of your staggeringly beautiful and impossibly glamorous better half. Like I say, a world you (almost certainly) and I (definitely) don’t live in.
The 500 Riva is classy and chic enough to slot right into that world without anyone batting an eye, even if it were parked among one-off supercars and bespoke-tailored Bentleys at that yacht club.
It’s finished in Sera Blue, a colour borrowed from Riva’s paint charts, with an aquamarine pinstripe that is directly inspired by the ‘stripe on the hull of the iconic Riva Aquarama speedboat. Plentiful chrome trim and polished 20-spoke 16in wheels with blue detailing finish off the outside.
The interior is dominated by a highly polished slab of mahogany with mapel inlay on the dashboard. Mahogany is also used for the gearknob and door sill trims. The seats are upholstered in luxuriant Poltrona Frau leather in ivory, with ivory stitching and blue piping.
Choose between hatchback with a panoramic roof or convertible with a blue top. There’s a choice of engine and gearbox, too. I’d suggest combining the convertible with the lively two-cylinder TwinAir motor and the optional Beats Audio stereo to pump out some tunes.
500 will be sold at an unspecified price. Given the price of previous similar special edition 500s, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 30 or 40 grand.
