As hotly anticipated as the 2016 launch of the new Ford GT is, its race debut in January has the car world even more excited.
That debut comes at the Daytona 24 Hours and Ford has released footage of the Ford GT racer in testing at the Florida track. It’s the first event in a programme that will lead to a return to the Le Mans 24 Hours, a race the original Ford GT40 won outright four times on the trot from 1966-1969.
Contesting the GTE class, the Ford GT won’t be in contention for overall honours, but it will still be battling against Ferrari for the class win, stirring memories of the two marques fighting for on-track supremacy in the Sixties.
But back to this footage; what can we learn? Well, the GT never stops looking absolutely astonishing; it seems very quick on track and the 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine produces an incredible, bassy warble.
January cannot come round soon enough.
