The new hardcore Ford Fiesta ST200 looks like a properly feisty little bundle of fun.
Its 1.6-litre EcoBoost turbo engine is boosted to 197bhp, up from 181bhp, which knocks 0.2secs off the 0-62mph time, the sprint now taking just 6.7secs. There’s more torque, too, at 214lb/ft.
And you still get 20 seconds of overboost when you mash the throttle into the bulkhead, which adds another 15bhp and 22lb/ft. Top speed is bumped up to 143mph, while there’s better in-gear punch thanks to a shorter final drive ratio.
The ST200 sits 15mm closer to the ground than the standard ST, while the dampers have new settings and the anti-bars are thicker. The steering has been revised for better feel and quicker repsonse, too.
Even better, the ST200 has torque vectoring and 3-mode stability control that can be switched off entirely. Which should surely be its default setting. The brakes are bigger, as well.
The Storm Grey colour and matt black 17in wheels you see here are the choice, while unique trim details are liberally spread around the interior to go with top-level ST-3-grade gadgetry.
Ford will only 1000 examples of the Fiesta ST200, at a price of £22,745. That might seem a little pricey, but limited edition fast Fords are highly sought after so expect it to sell out quickly.
For has also announced a new ST-Line model for the Fiesta and Focus ranges, featuring bodykit, wheels, sports seats and lowered suspension similar to that on full-fat ST models. It’s available on the more powerful petrol and diesel engines in the Fiesta and Focus line-ups.
