Honda full of far eastern promise

IT’S amazing how little can look so good.

Just a bit of shading, add a bit of red and this sketch teaser of Honda’s Sports EV concept for the Tokyo Motor Show next month looks an absolute humdinger.

Tokyo usually serves up the weird and the wonderful of motoring. But never should you take it for granted.

Remember the Prius and it’s hybrid motor was unveiled there in 1999 and everyone scoffed.

Just a few years back I watched Honda’s robot Asimo kick a football into a goal at a press launch.

Now we have footballing robots in the Premier League. You get better sentences out of Asimo than Wayne Rooney though, to be fair.

Anyway, Honda say this Sports EV will have “a striking silhouette, friendly face and supple body surfaces, all designed to ensure the car blends into any lifestyle.”

I don’t know what that marketing guff means, but I like the sound of it.

The Sports EV follows on from the simply amazing Urban EV concept that was unveiled in Frankfurt earlier in September – a retro-smart all-electric hatch with a ‘lounge-feeling’ interior, giant screens and rear-hinged doors.

We hope it has a similar face and style.

They will then be both full of far eastern promise.
