Jaguar Project 8 beats its own Nordschleife record

The totally unhinged Jaguar Project 8 already held the production saloon car record on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Back in 2017, it set a time of 7min 23.164secs, wiping seven seconds off the previous marker. But now its gone even faster, with a fairly astonishing lap of 7min 18.361secs.

The car used was a production-spec Project 8 with the two-seater Track Pack, the adjustable suspension set to race mode and the splitter and spoiler giving maximum downforce. A fresh set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tyres was bolted on, too.

Belgian racer and Jaguar development driver Vincent Radermaecker was behind the wheel.

Stuffed into the front end of the XE-based Project 8 is JLR’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, serving up a towering 592bhp. That goes through an automatic gearbox to four-wheel-drive, helping slingshot the ting from 0-62mph in 3.7secs. Top speed? 200mph.

It’s a bit of a heffalump, though, making it’s pace around the ‘Ring all the more remarkable. It’s only six seconds slower than the significantly lighter Porsche 911 GT3.

The Project 8’s production run has nearly sold out so you better hurry down to your friendly local dealer if you want. And bring £149,995.
