Jag are XE and they know it

Jaguar XE SV Project 8

JUST, for once, it would be great if a car firm released a production model with a camouflage paintjob.

Maybe they already have but we just couldn’t see it in the showroom?

Anyhow, this is the stonking Jaguar XE SV Project 8, the most powerful road-going Big Cat ever produced.

Apart from sounding like a car named for a Star Wars movie, this is outrageously hot.

Previewed in camouflaged form by Jaguar ahead of a public debut at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed at the end of June, the Project 8 follows the F-Type-based Project 7.

It will be hand-assembled at SVO’s technical centre in Coventry, and only 300 will be built.

The Project 8 gets the most powerful tuned version of Jaguar Land Rover’s 5-litre V8 petrol engine yet seen in a production Jaguar. Their tech boffins have wrung even more oomph out of the supercharged unit – producing 592bhp, 25bhp more than the Project 7.

The images released by Jag show extensive bodykit modifications with wider tracks front and rear, deep side skirts and redesigned bodywork around the rear wheelarches.

Basically it’s an XE that’s been down the gym, pumped full of steroids.

The front grille appears to contain deeper air intakes with contrasting mesh grilles – and we love a mesh grille even more than George Foreman.

John Edwards, Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations said: “The time is right for SVO to produce the most extreme performance road car in the history of Jaguar. The SVO team is possessed by the spirit of performance and committed to creating the most thrilling driving experience imaginable.

“Our clients worldwide were thrilled by the F-Type Project 7. The new XE SV Project 8 takes aerodynamics and performance engineering to another level – it is conceived for enthusiasts and the most discerning collectors. The price for such an extreme performance sports car available in strictly limited numbers will reflect that.”

The Big Cat priced the Project 7 at £130k so expect the Project 8 to go as far as £140,000.

But if you’re Simon Cowell or just won the Lottery, it’s worth it for a very exclusive car.

And go for a camouflage paintjob, of course.
