JAGUAR Land Rover have reinvented the steering wheel…and it’s SQUARE.
The ‘connected’ steering wheel of the future was debuted during the inaugural Tech Fest at Central St Martins art, design and technology college in London.
It comes with voice-activated artificial intelligence system called Sayer.
No that isn’t anything to do with a small afro-permed 70s bloke called Leo singing: You Make Me Feel Like Dancing.
No this 21st century Sayer works like Apple’s Siri or Amazon’s Alexa..
JLR revealed that the steering wheel will live in your home and store on all of your personal settings.
This would allow drivers to move the steering wheel between cars and have their configurations automatically adjusted.
The closest thing to the Sayer wheel we have in 2017 is Formula 1 steering wheel which are detachable.
It features a radical new shape, design and layout which looks like it could fit very ergonomically in your hand.
JLR envisage you’ll be able to order a car to drive with it and control any of the vehicle’s functions.
There’s just one hitch.
This new steering device is not ready until 2040.
By which time we’ll all be ‘driving’ autonomous cars with steering wheels.
Er, back to the drawing board chaps.
