THE brakehorsepower boffins have been at the Red Bull by the gallon again.
This is the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk that will be a hit for all darts players.
That’s because it can hit 180mph. Yes one hundred and eightttttty.
That makes it the fastest SUV of its size and class in the world and 0-60mph in just 3.5 seconds – a full second quicker than a Range Rover SV Autobiography Dynamic.
Somewhere in the bowels of most car firm factories, there are engineers sweating blood and Red Bull over squeezing every drop of mph out of their powerplants.
No doubt also lying awake at night when another firm releases an even quicker version.
Well, while the supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine producing a whopping 707bhp Trackhawk is as quick as the Jaguar F-Type SVR R, it’s not the fastest SUV in the world.
That prize goes to the large SUV Bentley Bentayga W12 which reaches a whopping 187mph.
The best bit about the Trackhawk is the extremely macho bodykit and an interior swathed in Nappa leather and suede trim.
Jeep will unveil the Trackhawk at the New York Show this week and goes on sale in the US this autumn – whether it makes it to the UK is still to be decided, but likely.
Quite what you do with that sort of power on the school run is another question. Because that’s all these SUVs will ever do.
Just one drawback. The Trackhawk might hit 180mph but every journey is slowed down – by regular trips to fill the thing up.
I still want one though. Now.
