The Mk.2 Audi TT is long dead, but that hasn’t stopped German tuners HPerformance from getting stuck into the TT RS. And the results are… significant.
Fresh from the factory, the 2.5-litre, five-cylinder turbo motor under the bonnet of the Audi TT RS produces 335bhp and 332lb/ft of torque. Bear those figures in mind.
HPerformance has added a bespoke GTX-35 turbo; its own exhaust manifold; uprated intercooler, fuel pump and injectors; a 90mm air intake and a 90mm exhaust. Together they produce 740bhp and 649lb/ft. That’s nearly twice the torque and more than double the power! Or, put another way, this tuned, probably three-year old-ish Audi produces as much power as the Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari F12.
We suspect performance is in the ‘blink of an eye’ range and wouldn’t be surprised if the top speed tops 200mph. Fortunately, carbon ceramic brakes pilfered from the R8 are fitted. Handling? Well, let’s just say the TT RS isn’t exactly the sharpest knife in the box, so this is probably a straight-line specialist.
But who cares, when the bang-for-buck ratio is off the scale. HPerformance will sell you the full package for just €50,000, about £35,000 and you can pick up a decent TT RS for less than £25,000. So that’s 60 grand for a car with Lambo-baiting performance.
Bargain of the year, surely?
