Missing the Land Rover Defender already? Worry not, because Land Rover has announced a run of 25 factory restored Series 1 Land Rovers.
Newly-formed Land Rover Classic has scoured the world’s barns, hedgerows and ditches to find 25 Series 1s that will be completely restored to authentic 1948 specifications. Tagged Land Rover Series 1 Reborn, the cars will be rebuilt in a new facility at the Solihull factory where they were originally built.
Customers get to choose which of the 25 wrecks they want restored and there’s a choice of five period colours (bronze green pictured).
Land Rover Classic comes under the auspices of Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations department, alongside Jaguar Classic which recently announced a run of nine new examples of the Jaguar XKSS. As well as restoring old cars, JLR Classic also offers factory-made parts for classics (BMW and Mercedes offer similar services).
JLR Classic boss Tim Hannig said: “The launch of the Reborn initiative represents a fantastic opportunity for customers to own a valuable and collectable automotive icon. Reborn showcases Land Rover Classic’s expertise in restoring and maintaining our loyal customers’ prized Land Rovers. It also demonstrates the business’ commitment to supporting customers with original and genuine parts for Land Rover models that have been out for production for longer than 10 years.”
Predictably, Land Rover hasn’t revealed how much the Reborn cars will cost; that values for the best Series 1 Land Rover are gradually, inexorably climbing towards the £100,000 mark should give some idea.
