The London Taxi Company (LTC) have unveiled the next generation zero emission capable Black Cab, the TX5.
The TX5 was revealed at an event celebrating creative industries and design held in London alongside part of the state visit to the UK by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The TX5 follows the design concepts of the previous generations of LTC models and draws on more than sixty years of style that has made the Black Cab an iconic sight on the streets of London.
It is a great modern recreation of the London Taxi Cab both visually and in the components it is made from.
The all-new TX5 is zero emission capable, it has been made from a new lightweight aluminium body structure and it benefits from a range extended battery electric vehicle system which will ease and current Black Cab drivers’ uncertainty about running a zero emission taxi.
All 2,000 components of the TX5 have been designed from the ground up.
The improvements continue as the TX5 accommodates six passenger seats, improved driver leg room, rear-hinged doors to improve passenger access and making its debut on the Black Cab, a panoramic glass roof.
The TX5 is also equipped with WiFi internet capability and provides charging points for drivers and passengers. All the TX5 Black Cab needs now are some friendlier prices and it’ll be perfect.
To top things off, LTC’s parent company, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, also announced its intention to invest an additional £50 million in its state-of-the-art greenfield production facility in Warwickshire. This will turn the site into the group’s UK R&D headquarters bringing total investment in the new site to £300 million.
The Ansty facility will now be 50% larger than originally planned to accommodate the enhanced R&D centre and additional technical facilities alongside the production line to build the new TX5.
The TX5 will be launched in the UK at the end of 2017 and across international markets in 2018.
