For the Love of Cars is back!

As the car currently stands...

As restoration-based car shows go, For the Love of Cars is arguably one of the best. Ant Anstead’s dedication to doing the job right is car-telly heaven. While the shouty Phil Glenister is always on hand to educate us about the cars, while meeting the people passionate about them.

It’s simply car TV that makes warms the heart. Especially as the cars up for restoration always tend to be something rather special indeed. A case in point being this 1958 Lotus Elite Series 1, which is the first car to be restored in the new series.

Lotus Elite – rich in history

The show has made a name for itself by restoring some of the finest cars around, and this is no exception. Not only is it a car, it’s also one of the most well-known of its kind. originally bought by jazz legend, Chris Barber, the car’s history is already off to a good start. However, it was also raced extensively from 1958 – 1963. This is a Lotus with real pedigree.

However, the poor old girl has been idle for 40 years. Such a long time with no movement can be the end for old cars. Unless of course, Ant Anstead and the team at Evanta step in. Now, the car is as fresh and mint as it was in 58.

Lotus Elite – reborn

At the age of 58 and after several years in storage, the Elite has just emerged. It’s been through a top quality, exacting nut and bolt restoration by Ant Anstead’s team. Also with assistance from top Lotus marque experts, all filmed as part of a one off Lotus special ‘For the Love of Cars’.

Ant Anstead explains, “Every detail of this car has been restored as new using only top quality components. And with race scrutineering in mind. The result is a car that is a joy to behold and a thrill to drive. I raced the car in the Tourist Trophy at this year’s Silverstone Classic and I couldn’t be more proud.”

Lotus Elite – could be yours

And now the car can be yours. As part of the series, the car will be auctioned off. This time, the venue will once again be the NEC in Birmingham. It will form part of the auction for November’s Classic Motor Show. Though you’ll need deep pockets – the estimate is £75 – £100,000.

Silverstone Auctions managing director, Nick Whale, said, “This car represents a unique proposition for buyers either wanting to race in top level historic motor sport or add to a stable of historically interesting cars. Its history and provenance make this Elite one of the most famous in the world and it would be welcome at any prestigious historic race meeting or show worldwide.”
