Oh yes, it’s time to rejoice. The bods at McLaren have finally lopped the roof off the mighty P1. No doubt spurred on by Ferrari now offering a topless version of the LaFerreri, the newest P1 Roadster model to join the McLaren range is stunning in every sense. Perfect for wind-in-your-hair motoring. Or, more accurately, breeze-in-your-hair. You see, it’s not quite as fast as the hard-top P1 due to it being 100% electric. Oh, and you need to be under the age of six to drive it. It’s quite small.
While it may leave Dads with a pang of jealousy, tots can giggle freely as they take to the playground in what has to be the coolest toy on the planet. Josh from playgroup can get lost, his Little Tykes Cozy Coupe no longer wins the gaze of Mia, the girl from infants who once stole your jelly.
P1 Roadster EV – tech for tots
If you’re a young person on the move, you need to have your technology handy, too. You can’t be seen driving to the wings in something that doesn’t have an MP3 player. Or working lights. Or dihedral doors. Though we know the last one is hard to say. You’ve only just mastered saying ‘spaghetti’ without crying.
McLaren also knows your busy with other big decision. How much sand should you put in your pockets? Will the cat fit in the bin? Can Mummy’s new shoes float in the toilet. These are big questions that you need to answer. The colour of your car shouldn’t cloud them. As such, McLaren has made the choice for you: Volcano Yellow.
P1 EV Roadster – the driver’s choice
What about the drive? Well, you have rear-wheel drive which, when combined with the hard plastic tyres, means you’ll be a drift God. You also have three forward gears and one reverse. Perfect for parking up outside the soft play area. As for top speed – it’s 3mph, so it should get your dad walking along briskly as he tries to keep up.
The new P1 Roadster is also something of a bargain, too. It can be yours for just £375. Not per month. Just one payment. Though you don’t care, do you? You’re going to ask Santa, obviously.
Of course, this new car will be available from McLaren dealerships. Though unlike the rest of the range currently on offer, you should be able to get one from Toys R Us, too.
