Meet the gold-plated Lamborghini

It’s the way of the world these days that simply owning a Lamborghini Aventador, one of the most extreme, attention-grabbing supercars there is, isn’t enough by itself.

There are two reasons for this. First, the Aventador is relatively common, so when when you go to a fancy do, you want yours to stand out from the other half-dozen others there. And second, the people who can afford Aventadors are used to getting exactly what they want.

As a result, there are at least ten companies who will supply all sorts of bodykits for the big bull, in wide range of extremity and taste. But even these don’t quite hit the mark for some.

Like Qatari businessman Jaber Bin Abdallah Al Hmaidi, who wanted something really special to celebrate Qatar’s National Day in 2015. So he took his Lambo to Maatouk Design, a company that specialises in “designing and executing deluxe souvenir antiques, gifts and shields for kings, prime ministers and VIPs, that meet all needs for public and private occasions.” Quite.

What is that something really special that Maatouk created? An Aventador with bits of the interior and exterior plated in gold. Including the wheels and license plate. Well, if you’ve got it, you may as well flaunt it. The seven-figure sum it no doubt is probably loose change for the owner…
