We thought Mansory were the kings of insanely powerful, massively modified SUVs. But it seems there is a challenger to the crown, US-based Hauk Designs.

Hauk specialises in modifying the Jeep Wrangler, turning what is already a very capable off-roader into a car that could probably scale Everest. But it seems Hauk has a considerable thirst for power, too.

To quench that thirst, Hauk has stuffed a new engine under the Wrangler’s bonnet. The 6.2-litre, supercharged V8 Dodge Hellcat engine, no less. All 707bhp and 650lb/ft of it. As you can see in the pictures, that’s enough to do four-wheel burnouts on massive off-road tyres.

Mercifully, the suspension and brakes have upgraded to cope, but as you can see, this remains very much an off-road biased machine. Which probably makes unleashing all that power a mildly terrifying experience. And we wouldn’t even think of attempting a corner in it.

That’s not to say it doesn’t look like a quality bit of kit. It does. There doesn’t appear to anything particularly complicated going on; Hauk has simply used┬áproven components and put them together properly.

Hauk plans to build 50 examples of the Jeep Wrangler Hellcat, at an unspecified cost. We have no doubt they will easily find enough suitably well-heeled, unhinged mentalists who want such a thing.
