Mid-life facelift for Maserati Quattroporte

Maserati’s big Four-Door has been given a mid-life nip and tuck, with refreshed styling inside and out and new trim levels.

The styling revisions make an excellent game of spot the difference. The changes centre around a new grille, but there’s also new side skirts and door mirrors, and reprofiled bumpers. A new element that’s almost invisible makes the biggest difference: an air shutter in the grille works with other aero tweaks including a flat floor to improve drag by a claimed 10%.

The interior redesign is more obvious, as it’s centred around a much-needed new infotainment system with an 8.4in touchscreen. With less switchgear needed, the rest of the dashboard has been cleaned up – what few controls are left are grouped below the screen and on the centre console.

There’s new tech on-board, as well. The infotainment is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a suite of driver assistance systems is added and there’s an air-quality sensor that prevents outside pollutants getting into the cabin.

Two new trim levels are added to the range: GranLusso and GranSport. As the name suggests, the GranLusso majors on added luxuriousness, with a classier exterior look and more sumptuous interior with four-zone climate-control and heated rear seats.

GranSport, meanwhile, has a racier look with 21in wheels and gloss black trim (a carbon pack in optional), while inside are a set of sports seats.

Both GranLusso and GranSport are available as equally-priced upgrades to the Quattroporte Diesel and Quattroporte S; the top-of-the-range Quattroporte GTS is only available in GL or GS form.

The engines remain the same, starting with the 275bhp, 443lb/ft 3.0 V6 Diesel, rising up through the 410bhp, 376lb/ft twin-turbo 3.0 V6 S, to the 530bhp, 516lb/ft twin-turbo 3.8 V8 GTS. Thanks to those aero improvements, top speed increases incrementally across the board to 157mph, 178mph and 193mph respectively.

Price range from £70,510 to £115,980 when the facelifted Quattroporte goes on sale in June.
