Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Concept-S for Paris

Mitsubishi will unveil the Outlander PHEV Concept-S at the Paris Motor Show in October. Described as “presenting a special design package for the production Outlander PHEV,” it could point to a future facelift for the plug-in hybrid SUV.

The exterior changes amount to chrome accents either side of the grille and wraparound headlights at the front, and bigger lamps and more chrome at the rear. The rest remains as per the current production car.

The new styling cues are taken from recent Mitsubishi concept cars – they haven’t previously been applied to a production-based model.

Mitsubishi says the exterior is “meant to symbolise the functionality and reassuring safety inherent to Mitsubishi’s SUV’s.”

The Concept-S interior has been been given a once-over too, with silver accented, black wood trim, and hand-stitched, ribbed leather upholstery.

According to Mitsubishi, the Concept-S uses the same powertrain as the standard Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor providing a total of 200bhp and 245lb/ft of torque. The rear axle-mounted electric motor provides four-wheel-drive.

0-62mph takes 11.0 seconds, with a top speed of 106mph. More importantly, Mitsubishi claims average fuel consumption of 148mpg, Co2 emissions of 44g/km and an electric-only range of 32 miles.

The Outlander PHEV recently won its class on the FIA Asia Cross Country Rally.
