Morgan planning electric and hybrid models

British manufacturer Morgan has announced that it will be adding electric and hybrid models to its sports car lineup from 2019 onwards.

The electric and hybrid project comes following a £6 million investment from Morgan into its Malvern factory in order to develop the new alternately powered cars.

The funding will push Morgan forwards in the development of alternative fuel models in their expanded future model range.

The model range will also include the upcoming electric Morgan EV3 that was unveiled at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Ev3 is expected to go on sale later this year.

This isn’t the British manufacturer’s first endevour into alternate fuel sources. There had been work on the electric Morgan Plus E which was built in collaboration with British technology specialists Zytek and Radshape.

This new investment project will help “significantly reduce vehicle CO2 emissions” whilst still delivering best in class fuel economy.

Morgan are expecting an increase in demand and therefore will be expanding its workforce.

Managing Director Steve Morris stated:

“This is a very exciting project for us. We have been involved in the research and development of new propulsion technology since the inception of the LifeCar project almost 10 years ago. We are now ready to develop the best hybrid and electric drivetrain solutions for production implementation before the end of the decade.”
