If you want a bit more power from your Volkswagen, there’s a new company that can provide some tasty upgrades. British engine tuner Mountune and American wheelmaker fifteen52 have teamed up to launch a range of VW tuning products under the brand m52.

Mountune has long been associated with Ford, in recent years producing manufacturer-approved tuning kits for the Ford Fiesta ST and Focus ST. But the company has extensive experience with VW Group engines, as well, building the Audi-based motors that powered Formula 2 cars for a number of years.

fifteen52, meanwhile, has been a favourite in the custom Volkswagen scene for over 20 years.

Initially, m52 is producing a tuning pack for the Mk.7 VW Golf GTi and Golf R, which includes a full induction kit and ECU reflash. Mountune claims the upgrades improve performance, but doesn’t give any figures. Given its past record with the aforementioned Fords, there should be a useful slug of extra power.

DSG-equipped cars are catered for, as well, the transmission control unit getting a reflash to suit the power upgrade.

The m52 catalogue will eventually be extended to cover other VW Group models. There will be a range of merchandise, as well.

Mountune’s Ford ST upgrades don’t affect the car’s warranty and it’s possible m52 will try to achieve the same kind of approval from the VW Group.

Ford isn’t being abandoned, either, Mountune anticipating releasing a set of upgrades for the next-gen Focus ST as soon as possible after its launch.
