It may not look much different, but the latest SEAT Ibiza Cupra has been heavily updated.
The biggest changes lies under the bonnet. Where the previous car had a rather over-complicated 1.4-litre turbocharged and supercharged engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the new car has a much simpler 1.8-litre turbo motor and a six-speed manual gearbox.
A new engine brings more power and torque, up to 189bhp and 236lb/ft. 0-62mph is dispatched in 6.6secs (just 0.1secs slower than the more powerful, launch control-equipped Renaultsport Clio 220), with a top speed of 146mph.
Also new are comfort and sport driving modes, which alter suspension and steering settings. 17in wheels and sports suspension are standard, along with an electronic locking differential.
Inside, there’s SEAT’s latest infotainment system with MirrorLink and full Apple Car Play and Android Auto compatibility. Climate control, bi-xenon headlights and LED rear lights comes as standard.
The Ibiza Cupra will only be available in three-door SC form when it goes on sale in the UK in January. Full specs and pricing will be confirmed nearer the time.
