Regent Street Motor Show preview

The Regent Street Motor Show, held this year on Saturday 31 October, flies under the radar a bit, but it’s one of the best car shows in the country and, best of all, it’s free.

As the name suggests, Regent Street in London is closed down for the show. It started as a showcase for the amazing contraptions that take part in the fabled London to Brighton Run the next day, which remain at the heart of the event, but it has grown into rather more than that.

The big draw this year is the opportunity to get up close to James Bond’s new wheels, the sensational Aston Martin DB10, in the same week that SPECTRE is released in cinemas. The DB9 GT, Vantage GT12 and Rapide S will displayed alongside.

Caterham will be there, as well, with a team of four technicians attempting to build a base model Seven 160 from scratch in six hours, either as a world record attempt for the most skinned knuckles in one place, or as a demonstration of the relative ease of building a Caterham kit car.

Elsewhere, there will be displays by various car clubs and car manufacturers, with an emphasis on low emission vehicles.

The organisers claim as many as 350,000 “enthusiasts, tourists and shoppers” wandered through the show last year. I’ve been a couple of times and always really enjoyed it, even though it is usually very crowded.

We thoroughly recommend you make the trip. The Regent Street Motor Show takes place on Saturday 31 October, from 10:30 to 16:00.
