EVER think you’d be one day jealous of Postman Pat? Well now you will be.
Because this is his new motor.
Oh yes. I want one as well.
But it’s not just for Greendale. This is a real Royal Mail electric van which is going on trial in London, developed by a firm called Arrival.
Arrival are plug-in experts having produced the outrageous Roboracer, the utterly bonkers Formula E driverless machine.
These prototypes from Arrival will operate from Royal Mail’s central London Mount Pleasant depot, to various distribution centres across the city. We’re told they’ve got a range of around 100 miles.
This is the smallest version at around three and a half tonnes, though other designs weigh in at six and seven and a half tonnes.
Each is built from ultra-lightweight composite materials and all have been fine-tuned for inner-cities.
The good news is that Postman Pat will also keep his job because the vans won’t contain autonomous driving technology.
Paul Gatti, Royal Mail Fleet’s managing director, said: “We will be putting them through their paces over the next several months to see how they cope with the mail collection demands from our larger sites.”
There’s no official word whether there’s room for a black and white cat.
