The Chevrolet Colorado, like all Chevys these days, isn’t on sale in the UK.

However, buyers in Thailand can choose up to 26 combinations of Colorado models, powertrains, cabins and ride heights.

The truck comes with a mind-boggling menu. You can have it in single, extended and crew-cab bodies, and in high and low-stance formats.

If that’s not enough, there are wide and narrow body options, as well as two- and four-wheel-drive configurations. Phew! Thank goodness it’s not for sale here; it’d do my head in!

The development of the Colorado was headed by GM engineers in Brazil, who custom-made the vehicle for a number of global markets, including those in Southeast Asia.

In fact, they lived in Thailand during the truck’s gestation to scrutinise the market, which led to three specification levels: the entry-level LS, mid-range LT and range-topping LTZ. More choice! Arghhh!

The range also features a couple of GM-built four-cylinder turbo diesel lumps, designed to be non-gas-guzzling yet high performing. The two oil-burners are built at GM Thailand’s plant and are available in 2.5- and 2.8-litre capacities.

Do I wish the Chevrolet Colorado were on sale in the UK? No, if you want the short answer.

To my mind, when it comes to trucks and SUV’s, less is more. And this motor has an unnecessarily complex collection of choices choking bits very being.
