YOU don’t often compare Hyundai to grass skirts, hula dancing and massages.
But now you can.
Say aloha to the Kona. This is the first teaser image of the Korean firm’s new SUV which will rival the huge-selling Nissan Juke.
Kona is a district that stretches for about 60 miles – including the airport of the same name – across Hawaii’s lava-lined western coast.
In tradition marketing waffle, Hyundai named their new model after the Hawaii location because “the island’s energetic image and unique lifestyle matches the Kona’s dynamic character.”
However, in motoring terms, this is a significant car. It’s the latest creation under the watchful eye of design guru Peter Schreyer who has already transformed Kia from rusty and boxy to rather foxy.
Now he’s working his magic on Hyundai as he oversees both firms now.
There’s not much else to tell you about the Kona apart from dissecting the annoyingly vague reveal image.
What that does tell us though is a very difference design language. The Kona is likely to bring in a more sportier Hyundai profile, teased by a much sleeker, athletic headlamp and bodyline.
The all-new B-SUV will be the fourth member of the brand’s SUV family in Europe consisting of Grand Santa Fe, Santa Fe and Tucson.
The Kona will be fully revealed in June and go on sale in October.
We think it’ll be lava good.
