Volkswagen is marking the launch of the sixth-generation of its big, upmarket people carrier with this special edition called, appropriately enough, the Caravelle Generation Six.
The G6 takes inspiration from the original posh VW bus, the iconic Samba. It comes in classic red and white two-tone livery with 18in wheels, LED lights, chrome detailing, privacy glass and Generation Six badging.
Inside, there’s alcantara and leather upholster and heated seats; top-grade infotainment with satnav, DAB radio and Bluetooth; three-zone climate-control; a full suite of safety aids and lots of model-specific details.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre diesel engine, with 148bhp or 201bhp. Both engines are attached to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
It’s a desirable thing, but you’d have to be a massive VW Caravelle fan to actually buy one, because it ain’t cheap. There’s no other way of saying it: prices start at £52,051. Although, that is still about half what a good original Samba is worth, these days.
