Subaru has confirmed that its rather handsome new Subaru Levorg GT estate will go on sale in the UK in September.
The Levorg – not to be confused with La Forge, the engineer in Star Trek: The Next Generation – effectively replaces the Legacy estate which was dropped from the UK line-up in 2008.
Though it is related to the current, sixth-generation Legacy, the Levorg isn’t simply the latest Legacy estate by another name. There is a wagon-bodied Legacy, but it’s only available as the Outback crossover. Clear as mud, then.
Essentially, the Levorg is a posh-ish, left-field alternative to the Ford Mondeo. Power comes from a 1.6-litre, ‘boxer’ four-cylinder turbo petrol engine, sending its 168bhp to trademark four-wheel-drive via a Lineartronic CVT gearbox. Not the liveliest of powertrains, but it should be very refined.
According to Subaru, the Levorg comes loaded with safety kit, including blind spot assist and rear vehicle alert. It will also have Subaru’s latest infotainment system along with “bespoke sports seats and premium materials.”
Full pricing and specs will be announced before the Subaru Levorg GT goes on sale. Expect the range to expand to include a diesel option and we rather hope there’s a successor to the old Legacy R Spec B, which teamed a 250bhp engine, WRX STi suspension and nondescript styling for one of the great Q-cars of recent years.
