HOW did  Tom Sykes walk away from this?

The Kawasaki star was thrown from his machine in horrific fashion at the Portimao World Superbike round.

During Saturday morning’s third practice session, Sykes flew off his Kawasaki before the Turn 9 right-hander and slid several metres alongside his bike, which caught on fire and burned the Briton’s left arm.

The 2013 champion was ruled out of the Portimao races after crashing on his out lap at the start of FP3 in which he sustained the injury.

After an initial scan at the circuit revealed a dislocated and fractured little finger, further assessments in hospital in Barcelona have shown Sykes also sustained a fracture in his fourth finger and wrist on his left hand.

In a statement released by his Kawasaki Racing Team, Sykes has undergone surgery to fix the fractures at the iMove Traumatology at Clinica Mi Tres Torres in Barcelona which lasted less than two hours and was performed by hand and elbow specialists Dr Jordi Font Segura and Enric Dominguez.
