Tightest reverse parallel park record broken

British stunt driver Alastair Moffatt has broken the Guinness World Record for the tightest reverse parallel park, slotting a Mini into a gap just 34cm longer than the car, beating the previous record by 1cm.

Usually reverse parallel parking is a protracted affair that involves a lot of shuffling back and forwards. Not so much here. Instead, Moffatt reversed full-bore at a right angle to the space, executed a J-turn, then handbraked into the space.

As ever with these things, Moffatt makes a ridiculously complicated manoeuvre seem ridiculously easy. Indeed on the in-car camera he appears to actually do almost nothing. In reality, countless hours will have gone into getting the position and timing exactly right.

Moffatt also holds the record for the tightest parallel park, handbraking a Fiat 500C into a space 7.5cm longer than the car. That’s about two-thirds the length of an iPhone.
