A rejigged Renaultsport Megane range has been announced, with two new models added and power output raised to 275bhp across the board.
Actually, that’s not entirely accurate. In Normal mode, the new additions produce just 250bhp with the stability control fully on, which seems pretty pointless. Sport unleashes all 275 horses and ease the electronic safety net back, while Race disengages in completely.
Both sprint from 0-62mph in six seconds flat, with a top speed of 158mph. It’s possibly not the highest priority, but 37.7mpg and 174g/km are perfectly reasonable for the performance on offer.
So what exactly are these new models? The 275 Nav, which replaces the 265, is the ‘mini GT’ of the range, with standard kit that includes automatic lights and wipers, dual-zone climate control, rear parking camera, privacy glass, thumping stereo and satnav. Electric memory seats with leather upholstery are optional, as is the Cup Chassis Pack if you want to sharpen up the driving experience.
Less plush but more focused is the 275 Cup-S, which comes equipped with the Cup chassis and a mechanical limited slip differential. To that you can add Ohlins adjustable dampers, a titanium exhaust from the masters at Akropovic and super-sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.
Prices for the Renaultsport Megane 275 Cup-S start at £23,935, while the 275 Nav costs £25,935. Both are on sale right now and deliveries are due to start in November.
