I’ve had a lot of cars. And when I say a lot, that’s exactly what I mean. I’ve literally lost count. I’m well into the hundreds now, and there’s no indication I’ll stop any time soon. I like buying rusty old crap, basically. That said, of the mass of cars I’ve owned, I have turned a profit on a few. I quadrupled my investment on a W126 Mercedes-Benz. My Mk2 Ford Zodiac turned a couple of quid. Even my Mitsubishi Saporro made my wallet smile in the end. And on that note, there are cars that have slipped through my fingers that would be worth a lot more today. The Capris I had, the Beetles. That kind of thing. However, I never thought my Vauxhall Novas would be worth anything. Even my 1.3 SR. How wrong I was.
What we have here is the very same car, albeit in red (mine was silver) with a guide price of around £10k. Ten. Thousand. Pounds. For a Nova. has the world gone mad? Admittedly it is a nice machine thanks to having only covered 15,900 miles in its 30 year life. And it has only had two owners, both in the same family. Furthermore, it comes complete with tool kit, brochure and original order form. I guess this is the ultimate time warp Vauxhall Nova.
Do you need to re-live your youth? Were you a jealous 14 year old who longingly watched the boy racers do handbrake turns in Maccy D’s car park? If you were, this could be your time to shine. You could get back on top. Because spending £10,000 on a Nova to do so is perfectly rational behaviour.
In all honesty though, it could be a good investment. Seriously, when was the last time you saw one of these? Not only that, when was the last time you saw one this mint? This is a rare, rare find indeed.
The Nova goes under the hammer this weekend (the 5th) at Anglia Car Auctions in Kings Lynn. Though be warned. If the ACA estimates of old are anything to go by, this car will sell for a lot more. if you do buy it though, remember a you need to buy a few other things. You’ll need a ‘Max Power’ sticker, a Novadose bodykit, 18in TSW Venom alloys, Peco Big Bore 4, Alpine head unit, Lexus lights…
