IN this week’s bizarre motoring revelations…

Volvo reveal that their S60 Polestar saloon became the fastest “road-legal four-door car” around the Nurburgring – a year ago!

However this breaking news is now released AFTER the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio lapped the circuit in 7m 32s, a full 19 seconds quicker than the swift Swedish saloon.

Not really worth sending Kay Burley round for old news, eh?

However, it is worth talking about because it underlines Volvo’s incredible transition from green-fingered gardeners to Green Hell.

Yep, when I grew up Volvo was most known for being the vehicle of choice in 70s hit sitcom The Good Life.

Dreadful-looking greenhouses on wheels, only good for moving compost and plants.

Now the bright powder blue Polestar is ripping it round the ‘ring in 7m 51seconds. That makes it quicker than a McLaren Mercedes SLR, Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and a V10 BMW M5.

So it was a swift kick in the meatballs that Alfa broke their record.

In future Volvo, tell us stuff when it, er, happens. Thank you.

In other breaking news, Abba have won Eurovision with a catchy tune called Waterloo….
