What is it?

The Volvo S90 is the replacement for the old S80 saloon. Except it’s a completely new car that follows on from the award winning Volvo XC90 which arrived last year.

What do I need to know?

The Volvo S90 is the continuation of the Volvo renewal in which the Swedish manufacturer aims to continue to bring its unique style and premium quality to the market following the positive reception of the Volvo XC90.

The S90 is a premium luxury saloon from Volvo that will be entering the executive saloon class and competing against some of the very best saloons from Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar and even Maserati.

It is based on the same architecture as the Volvo XC90 and no that does not mean its some sort of bulging SUV in a saloon body. What it means is that the premium build, impressive interior quality, exterior styling and strong powertrain options.

This means that the Volvo S90 will feature the same 2.0L inline-four in 240 hp T5 guise, 302hp T6 guise and a 400hp hybrid T8 version.

Standard safety features on the Volvo S90 include the intuitive IntelliSafe Assist as standard. IntelliSafe Assist includes adaptive cruise control, distance alert and the semi-autonomous drive feature, Pilot Assist.

Pilot Assist works by giving a “gentle steering input” keeping the premium saloon within lane markings up to motorway speeds of around 80 mph. Previous Pilot Assist technology needed to follow another car but this newer firmware doesn’t.

Prices and release dates are yet to be announced but we expect the Volvo S90 to arrive in the UK this summer.
