This is one of the most astonishing bits of on-board race footage we’ve seen in a while. British racer Olly Bryant is at the wheel of a preposterously fast 1965 Ford Mustang for the Classic24 at Daytona, held in January at Daytona Speedway in Florida.

Bryant is one a growing band of young professional racers who are equally adept in historic machinery as they are modern race cars. Indeed, Bryant started his career in historic racing, driving an MGB. He progressed up to modern GT racing, but is still a much-in-demand wheelman in historics.

Bryant takes the start of the Daytona race in 25th place and blitzes his way up to the lead within three laps. In a field including high-tech Ferraris and Porsches 40 years younger than his Mustang.

It’s a stunning display of immense speed and epic car control. And footwork – the way Bryant dances between the pedals is mesmerising.
