If you like cars, you should have a soft spot for the offerings of Alfa Romeo. Always beautiful (apart from the Arna), they’re a car for the true petrolhead. As such, the upcoming arrival of Alfa’s new super-saloon, the Giulia, should get your juices flowing. Figuratively. Don’t make a mess.
The Giulia is the long-awaited new arrival from Alfa, and initial reviews of the left-hand-drive version have been positive. Its rear-drive platform offers a level of excitement that’s not been seen on an Alfa Romeo for a long time – it’s going to worry its German counterparts, that’s for sure. It could also reignite love for the brand in the UK and, provided the electrics don’t implode (this is an Alfa, after all) it could become a real hit. We hope it does. We like an Alfa here at Onlymotors.
Pricing will start at just £29,180 OTR for a basic model. Though “basic” is a bit harsh. You’ll still get all those looks. Plus the rear-wheel-drive fun and a 2.0 petrol turbo with 200bhp. There’s also 50/50 weight distribution, which means brilliant handling dynamics. Unless you put concrete in the boot or something.
The Giulia also boasts a five star rating from Euro NCAP, which is reassuring. Though we’d advise you don’t slam one into anything. That would only serve to spoil those pretty lines. And your face. Let’s keep them as they are, okay?
The Giulia will feature five new trim levels: Giulia, Giulia Super, Giulia Tecnica, Giulia Speciale and the range topping Giulia Quadrifoglio. If you can pronounce any of that, you’re better than us. In terms of the oily stuff, five engines are available mated to ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox: 2.2 litre JTDM-2 diesel with either 150hp or 180hp, 2.0 litre petrol with 200hp and 2.9 litre V6 petrol engine with 510hp
Yes, that’s right, the Quadr… Quadro… Quid… the op of the range one has an M3-worrying 510bhp. Through the rear. YES PLEASE! We’re also giddily saying yes to the prospect of hitting 62mph in just 3.9s. This really is going to be one hell of a car.
For more information, head over to Alfa Romeo’s site or of course, pop into your local dealer. Before you do though, we’ve listed all the specification levels and prices for you. We’re nice like that.
