This is the first look at the new Jaguar XF, set to be unveiled next week and shown next month at the New York Auto Show.
Jaguar really is the master of the teaser image, this from-above shot telling us almost nothing about what the Audi A6/BMW 5-Series/Mercedes E-Class rival will look like.
Design director Ian Callum is effusive about the new XF’s styling though. “I believe the all-new XF will be the best looking car in its class,” he said. “Elegant, handsome and with proportions that imbue a great sense of integrity – [it] will be true to the strong tradition of sporting Jaguar saloon while being completely of its time.”
All we can really divine from the image is that the XF may have a similar face to the recently-launched XE, going by the lines on the bonnet.
It is based on the same aluminium-intensive architecture as the XE, which Jaguar claims will lead to segment benchmark weight and efficiency. Indeed, it says the most efficient models will be capable of over 70mpg.
Jaguar will give the XF a suitably dramatic unveiling. Veteran British stuntman Jim Dowdell will drive the car on a high-wire (two 34mm-diameter cables) over water in London, to “highlight the lightweight and agile credentials” of the car.
