Ford launches most powerful 1-litre engine ever

Ford has revealed the special edition Fiesta Zetec S Red and Fiesta Zetec S Black, both of which come with the most powerful 1.0-litre engine ever fitted to a production car.

The Fiesta’s award-winning 3-cylinder, turbocharged 999cc EcoBoost motor has been turned up to the tune of 138bhp, thanks to new turbo steeings, valve-timing, intercooler and throttle management.  That makes it more powerful per-litre than a Bugatti Veyron. The result is a 0-62mph time of 9.0 seconds (0.4s quicker than the cooking 123bhp version) and a top speed of 125mph. Yet it still returns 62.8mpg on the combined cycle and emits 104g/km of Co2.

The car’s handling has been refined to match the extra punch. The suspension gets new springs and dampers, the rear axle is stiffer, the electric power steering gives more feedback and the gearing has been altered for keener acceleration.

As the names suggest, the Zetec S Red comes in Race Red with a Panther Black roof and detailing; the Zetec S Black is Panther Black with a Race Red roof and detailing. Both ride on black 17-inch wheels. The bodykit includes sportier front and rear bumpers, side skirts and a rear spoiler.

The red ‘n’ black theme continues inside, which is covered in black leather upholstery with red stitching. The latest generation of the Ford SYNC voice-activated infotainment system comes as standard, as does MyKey which allows parents to place retrictions on young drivers.

Fiesta Zetec S Red/Black prices start at £15,995. Order are being taken now.
